Repsol Renewables is developing the large-scale Four Creeks Wind project in northwest Peoria County, Illinois and expects to install at least 400 megawatts (MW) of wind energy in the area, which has the potential to power more than 130,000 homes in Illinois annually.
More than $142 million in total property tax revenues to the Princeville and Brimfield School Districts over the life of the project, allowing them to make long-term financial plans, invest in new or improved facilities, and provide new technology and educational opportunities
for students
More than $33 million in total property tax revenues to Peoria County and jurisdictional Townships over the life of the project, which can be used for infrastructure upgrades, public safety, and other critically important services without raising local taxes
More than $53 million in total property tax revenues over the life of the project to enhance other vital community resources, such as libraries, fire districts, Illinois Central College, local road authorities, and the Greater Metro Airport Authority
Tens of millions of dollars to local landowners over the life of the project through escalating lease payments, resulting in a consistent stream of revenue that can protect against fluctuating commodity prices and help maintain family farms
More than 230 direct construction jobs in Peoria County, resulting in approximately $19 million in construction wages
At least 10 direct, long-term jobs for ongoing operations and maintenance, resulting in more than $1 million in jobs wages annually
More than $87 million in local spending during construction and more than $1.8 million per year in local spending during operations
Decommissioning security to ensure the host community and landowners will bear no responsibility for decommissioning and
restoration
Repsol Renewables has identified northwest Peoria County as suitable for wind development because of a robust wind resource, its proximity to the existing electric transmission system with available capacity, compatibility with existing land use, and minimal anticipated environmental impacts.
Repsol Renewables expects the Four Creeks Wind project to span roughly 25,000 participating acres in Brimfield, Millbrook, Princeville and Jubilee Townships. The project will be wholly located within the boundaries of Peoria County. Each turbine impacts less than 1 acre of land, so most of the anticipated leased acreage is needed to meet setback requirements, to maintain spacing between the turbines, and for underground collection to electrically connect the wind project together.
Below are the ways in which we will minimize potential environmental impacts of the project.
Develop a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan that outlines plans for sediment and erosion controls to manage any stormwater discharged from the project site
Work with state and federal agencies and stakeholders to ensure that potential environmental impacts are fully considered, minimized, and mitigated
Conduct a noise impact assessment to develop mitigation recommendations to ensure that the project meets applicable sound limits
Implement financial securities that will guarantee responsible decommissioning and restoration at the end of the project’s life
Generate local clean energy that strengthens the grid through resource diversity
Repsol Renewables is wholly owned by Repsol, a global multi-energy company that leads the energy transition and has set itself the goal of being zero net emissions by 2050.
With a portfolio of over 20,000 MW of wind, solar, and storage projects under development across the United States, Repsol Renewables’ experienced team has a track record of successfully identifying, developing, and building renewable energy projects. Our project successes are built on a foundation of rigorous screening and site selection, collaborative engagement with landowners and host communities, and disciplined execution through development, construction and operations.
