Harvesting the Wind to Power an Economic Boon for Peoria County

Repsol Renewables North America is developing the large-scale Four Creeks Wind project in northwest Peoria County, Illinois and expects to install at least 400 megawatts (MW) of wind energy in the area, which has the potential to power more than 130,000 homes in Illinois annually.

The Four Creeks Wind Project will Provide Long-Term Benefits to Peoria County

Providing additional tax revenues, which could total tens of millions of dollars over the life of the project, for road upgrades, schools, public safety, and other critically important infrastructure services.

Creating hundreds of family-wage construction jobs and more than 10 full-time operations jobs as well as increasing business activity among local hotels and motels, grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, equipment rentals, materials suppliers, and similar businesses.

Paying tens of millions of dollars to local landowners over the life of the project through escalating annual lease and easement agreement payments, resulting in a consistent stream of revenue that can protect against fluctuating commodity prices and help maintain family farms.

Stimulate local economic impact by sourcing Illinois-based equipment, materials, and labor when feasible in all phases – development, construction, and operations.

Being an active participant in the local community by developing meaningful relationships that translate into long-term partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community members.

Putting decommissioning security in place prior to construction to ensure the host community and landowners will bear no responsibility for decommissioning and restoration.

Why Peoria County?

Repsol Renewables North America has identified northwest Peoria County as suitable for wind development because of a robust wind resource, its proximity to the existing electric transmission system with available capacity, compatibility with existing land use, and minimal anticipated environmental impacts.

Four Creeks Wind Project Area

Repsol Renewables North America expects the Four Creeks Wind project to span roughly 25,000 participating acres in Brimfield, Millbrook, Princeville and Jubilee Townships. The project will be wholly located within the boundaries of Peoria County. Each turbine impacts less than 1 acre of land, so most of the anticipated leased acreage is needed to meet setback requirements, to maintain spacing between the turbines, and for underground collection to electrically connect the wind project together.

Repsol Renewables North America is Committed to Siting the Four Creeks Wind Project Responsibly and Safely

Below are the ways in which we will minimize potential environmental impacts of the project.

Water

Develop a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan that outlines plans for sediment and erosion controls to manage any stormwater discharged from the project site

Wildlife

Work with state and federal agencies and stakeholders to ensure that potential environmental impacts are fully considered, minimized, and mitigated

Sound

Conduct a noise impact assessment to develop mitigation recommendations to ensure that the project meets applicable sound limits

Closure

Implement financial securities that will guarantee responsible decommissioning and restoration at the end of the project’s life

Energy Independence

Generate local clean energy that strengthens the grid through resource diversity
